Health literacy is one of the critical factors in health disparities. The greatest opportunities for reducing health disparities are in empowering individuals and changing the health system to meet their needs. We cannot expect people to adopt the health behaviors and take the actions we champion as clinicians without clear communication, supportive activities to build skills, and organizational changes to make it possible for patients to follow through with our recommendations. Join Lara Setti for a conversation on what patients and their medical providers do to address health literacy and improve health care outcomes.
A note from Gwendolyn: Why this talk now? So many cultural and social issues are also health issues. Right now, developing a trusting relationship with your medical provider is more important than ever. One’s access to personal and family health directly correlates to social status and thriving.
