REAL TALK:
Real Talk Time for Berkshire Youth
Real Talk is designed to be just that--a space where youth have facilitated conversations on the real life topics that impact their day to day. Within a curriculum designed to highlight diversity topics, develop literacy and efficiency around those topics and have youth have a space to share stories, strategies for success and acquire skill for success.
The skills taught in this program has been done as in school and out of school program. We partner with other youth organizations and projects with our positive education and diversity leadership lens. Ranging from church groups to youth-led groups in school, BRIDGE Real Talk is sought out as a valuable partner in establishing a baseline of comfort, knowledge and communication and collaborative norms.
When we ask youth participants how to describe the program- here's what they said:
"Need someone to listen while you vent? Need someone to talk you through it? Are you stressed out? Want to build some skills to deal with your issues, conflicts or day-to-day problems? Are you feeling isolated? Are you feeling confused? Want some peer support? Want to be a leader? Want a safe place to just be yourself and have a good time - just talking? Are you feeling PRESSURE?
Are you feeling invisible or not heard? Do you have some ideas you want to share? Are you looking for something to do?
Are you wondering: is it because I am a girl? is it because I’m gay? Is it because I am Black, Latino, Jewish, African? is it because I don’t have money?"
This is a shared space to talk it out with trained diversity youth leaders & peers.
“If you can’t be real, stay home.
If you want some Real Talk, drop in.”
